Ecomorph did not work on my new E17 (SOLVED!)
« on: November 22, 2010, 06:32:58 PM »
:( I realize ecomorph is unstable... but I am hoping to at least get it to do something fun. When i try to enable it i get an error message... i took a screenshot but i'm not sure how to add it here.

I really feel silly here because I am pretty sure i know far less than anyone else here... but help is very much appreciated  ;D

Tjunky, did you setup your graphics card correctly in the pclinuxos control center?

After that you should be able to login to the e17-ecomorph session from the login screen.

Ok more info necessary :P

First on the video card drivers... yes im sure i have the driver installed correctly.. composite works fast and smooth...
I relogged to the ecomorph version of the desktop... entered ecomorph config... the ecomp mode box is checked... i clicked the start Ecomp button and this is what i got back (crosses his fingers hoping the image is viewable) :P

Do not click the start ecomp button.
If you login to the e17-ecomorph session ecomorph should be running out of the box.
If this method doesn't work log in into the normal e17 session, go to the ecomorph settings, enable ecomorph mode and click the apply button down below the settings window.

Ok I did as you suggested and just turned on a couple of things in ecomorph to see if they were working... nada... I do get the basic effects from composite... thinks like transparency and the flames at the bottom of the screen... the penguins work... ecomorph still seems to act as though it is disabled.

Is there any other info i can pass on that may help?

For ecomorph to work correctly you need to disable the compositing and dropshadow modules.

Have libdvdcss installed? It's needed to play encrypted dvd's and can't be included by default because of legal issues in some country's.
Once installed you should be able to play dvd with any player you like.

vlc is a good mediaplayer which plays anything without installing extra codecs.

Smurfslover, that was it... DVD plays perfectly now

Kisses ***dows goodbye!

Now all i need to do is learn how it all works! :P
I got remote access to my company desktop
DVD Playback
all the functionality I need in a lightening fast package that makes my old OS look kinda plain vanilla.

I'm sure questions will arise in the future for me, but I know you guys have the answers :P

Thanks so much to the whole team for all your incredible work... This is the kind of freedom Linux was meant to provide!
