Unable to mount file system on SD Cards.
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:10:58 PM »
I am not able to access SD Cards using card readers plugged into USB plugs.  I Mreceive the following error message:

An error occurred while accessing '1.9 GiB Removable Media'
the system responded: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock
on /dev/sdb1
Missing codepage or helper program or other error

I have tried 5 SD or SDHC cards using 2 different card readers. The cards and card readers are not corrupt, as I have accessed them using other O/S's, as well as booting from one of the cards.

I am running with a fully updated KDE 4.5.3 on a Dell Latitude D620 Core 2 Duo.  This error was happening prior to my last update this evening.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Look at some of the loaded modules with the "lsmod" command.  See if the usb_storage module is loaded.  If not, then use the command "modprobe usb_storage" to load it.

Ertain,

Thanks for posting, was almost thinking nobody would respond... anyway, usb_storage was not included when i ran lsmod.  I started it using modprobe. I had some success.

I still can't mount cards using the usb plugs on the laptop, however I also have a pc-card card reader which previously I also couldn't use. I am now able to use the card reader. Maybe I need to re-install, as I am having some other minor issues with this installation following the last few updates over the last month.
