GUI partition manager with move/resize capability
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:32:01 AM »
I am looking for a GUI based partition editor/manager that also has the ability to move partitions.
I have used Easeus Partition Manager on Windows to move / resize FAT/NTFS partitions but it wont handle anything else.
I am planning to move some ext3 partitions to increase the size of my /root.

Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Boot from live environment, install Gparted, then go about doing the partition works might be the best way i guess since i want to increase the size of /root.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Indeed ......  you cannot interfere with any partitions that are mounted, so the live environment is a suitable candidate.

Good luck.

It would be much easier though, IMO, to securely copy the contents of the present partition to a new, bigger one, if you have one available.
There is always the danger of corrupting an install with what you are proposing  ;)

Hmmm....
I have taken a Clonezilla whole drive image backup. Will be able to restore in case of any hanky panky. Will also backup my /home. I do not care much about /root right now because I have already messed it up with some fiddling of gtk-qt installs that have changed appearance of gtk apps.
- Will be back in another day or two.
