ATI driver config for extended desktop question
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:30:56 PM »
This is the card I have in this laptop:
Identification
Vendor: ‎ATI Technologies Inc
Description: ‎RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M]
Media class: ‎VGA compatible controller

I am having a bear of a time getting the external DELL 1907FP monitor I have connected to do anything other than clone my laptop display.  I cannot seem to get the laptop to recognize it as a second display.

I read the post here: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,59690.0.html.

and some of the related posts but I am hitting a wall.  Extremely comfortable with restoring my xorg.conf at this point!  If I run the query:

[guyfm@guylaptop ~]$ aticonfig --query-monitor
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected

not sure what's happening and I'm sure it's bleedingly obvious, my next laptop I'm buying from Weric.

that video card, x200 is not supported by current ati driver afik, ati dropped support for this card and many others in 2009 if i remember correctly

the most recent driver supporting it is 8.18 but i could be wrong on this, this driver won't work on pclinux because it is not compatible with current xorg version we have

for this video card you have, you must use the free version driver, x1950 and earlier driver available on pclinux control center

for multiple monitor all i can have with the mentioned driver is clone screen, extended desktop  on second screen doesn't work but i have a 9200, practically the same card you have but older technology so you might have better luck
