Machine: Elderly HP NX9005 laptop.
OS: LXDE 2010.10
Wifi: A generic No-brand item using AR5523 chipset.
Updates: Fresh to yesterday.
The problem: This dongle has worked over some years under PCLOS 2007 and PCLOS 2009. The 2007 setup was a marathon, the 2009 was a matter of pointing it at the .inf file of a set of driver files acquired from a M$ installer, and doing modprobe ndiswrapper.
With a fresh updated LXDE 2010.10 install things have gone pear-shaped. Somewhere I have made an error and now I can't replicate the correct steps because the machine continually looks for the dongle, tying up the processor and leaving the little wristwatch instead of the cursor. Too, desktop windows are malformed with no Quit, Resize or Minimise boxes and no borders. The dongle, however, is connecting through all this mayhem.
I want to uninstall the dongle and start again. It might not be LXDE-compatible but I want to try. Where do I find the folder with the dongle set-up in it, and how do I get rid? I have a lot of precious bandwidth invested in this install and would like to avoid starting again if possible.
Thank you in anticipation,
John.
