E17 Invalid call to subprocess
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:08:24 PM »
I just installed the most recent version of E17. Strange thing is that for reasons I can't understand, when I try to open system programs I begin to get "Invalid call to subprocess" messages. Weird thing is that it only effects system apps, Synaptic, Configuration apps...etc. All other apps are fine. Plus it doesn't happen all the time.

For instance -
After the initial install I ran updates via synaptic plus added a few programs and all was good. A while later (maybe 30 minutes) when I tried to open synaptic again, I got the error message.

Any Ideas?

Happened to me too ranran. Logging out then logging back in should fix it. If that doesn't work, reboot.

I don't need no steenking Windows --tuxalish

Switched network before it happened? I've noticed it also happens if i don't configure ethernet connection in pcc so the net_applet connects after login instead of making system connection before X startup.

Yes , so if you use autologin.
Personally, the first time through changing the path of this application and solved.
Example Synaptic change path  "Synaptic %U" or in path application add to final  || true

Also, you can edit the .desktop file and add gksudo to the beginning of the command.  I did that to the drakconf command ("Configure Your Computer") and it worked for me, as I was experiencing the same problem.

On the odd occasion that it happens to me, I just restart Enlightenment. You can do it from the menu, or you can press Ctrl-Alt-End. Takes a couple of seconds.
