Possible to open Thunar at specific directory?
« on: November 21, 2010, 02:51:25 AM »
I've Googled and searched the forum and I can't find a way to get Thunar to always start up displaying a specific directory e.g. /home/username/Documents.

Is this possible?

You could make a shortcut with the command
Code: [Select]
thunar /home/bascule

or any other directory you want Thunar to open.

so simple...    :-[

I'll try it when I get home tonight. Thanks.

I know I can create that shortcut and add it to the Xfce menu, but have you any idea where to similarly modify the behaviour of the 'Application Launcher' button for Thunar? I don't know what script/command is called by those buttons.

I am not sure not sitting at my Phoenix machine right now.

However, may I suggest to add a launcher to your task bar with Thunar opening where you want it to open, so you don't need to go to the menu.

But I'll check tonight for your "Application Launcher" Problem if nobody has jumped in before that ...

bascule,

Modifying the behavior of the "Application Launcher" button is very, very simple. For a full discussion, see the July 2010 issue of The NEW PCLinuxOS Magazine, particularly the "Xfce 4.6.2: Panel Plugins" article.

Under the "Command" entry, simply enter "thunar /home/bascule/Pictures" (without the quotes) and Thunar will open to your Pictures folder in your /home directory.

I hope this helps!

When I talked about a "Launcher for the taskbar" I talked exactly what Parnote was talking about.  Maybe I didn't manage to make myself clear.

Maybe I should leave these kind of questions to the more experienced guys like Sproggy and Parnote ... :-\

Thanks a lot for your help guys. Got it working just how I want it.

I didn't even think about right-clicking on the launcher icon itself which, of course, allows you to bring up the properties window  ::)

I changed the Working Directory rather than the Command, but both methods gave me the same result
