Sorry, me again.
The HP NX9005 with 2010.10 installed has just finished bringing in OpenOffice, and having failed to obtain the dictionary because the server reset, I rebooted to fix the default Desktop icon. The computer sprang into life far faster than it has before, the Toolbar icons have changed so that there is now the Green Man for Shutdown instead of the red square, the Exit Choices window looks, well, more modern. But the fan is now going bananas and the timer wristwatch is up permanently as though the CPU has a lot on its mind, and although it will let me open app's the Close square at the top left is missing in all cases and closing must be done from File>Quit. What have I done to it?

Thanks.
(EDIT) Hold that thought. On a hunch, I unplugged the USB Wifi dongle and the mania has subsided. There is something about it that the latest update done prior to the OO install dislikes intensely. I will mark this SOLVED and go back to my set-up once more.
