Hi ray , Menu > Settings > Settings Panel , Tab Applications > New Application.
Remember tab Apply to finish.

Agust,

Had checked that area out but there is no way to get to use the Go Up one Directory tab to select the executable as it's greyed out. I have tried by typing the correct address into the Application Name, in the case of Picasa it was /opt/google/picasa/3.0/bin/picasa , after clicking apply there was no entry in any menu (although the Show in Menus box was ticked) that I could find. Running it from a terminal is possible with the command picasa which has a link to the /opt entry in usr/bin. What happened to the entry I entered heaven only knows. I have checked your other post re adding to menus but it was no different to the method you gave me. I'm lost.

I installed Picasa using Synaptic. In this case with only E17 on the computer the item was not added to the menus (any menu) automatically.

The fact that newly installed programs apparently do not get added to relevant menus in E17 is a major drawback for any new user. I guess we become used to KDE/Gnome and from memory Xfce to do these simple things for us and it's a bit of a culture shock when adding an item to a menu seems to require advanced system knowledge. I'll try adding another program via Synaptic and see what happens.

Any other information on this would be appreciated, but I might hold off on making this my main system until I get all this sorted.

Thanks guys

Ray

Same here. I just installed Picase from Synaptic and it showed up in my menu right away.

Ok, I'll uninstall it with Synaptic and then reinstall and see what happens.

Ok,

1. Complete removal of Picasa via Synaptic
2. Reload
3. Check Upgrades
4. Run Apply
5. Rebooted
6. Checked /usr/bin amd /opt/google - no references for Picasa
7. Synaptic
8. Marked Picasa for Installation
9. Apply
10. Picasa can be run from the terminal but there are no Menu entries at all relating to Picasa.

Can't seem to get Ksnapshot to work correctly, only manage to get a snapshot of the bare desktop. Ok got that sorted out - desktop shot below

I am not sure what you guys are doing differently but it doesn't work on my E17 computer. A reminder that E17 is the only system on this computer. No KDE/Gnome/Xfce/Lxde nothing but E17.

Well Ray , by parts we:
First change the Gtk theme icons , Menu > Settings > Settings Panel , Tab Appearance > Theme Icons and
select another , restart Enlightenment , Menu > Enlightenment > Restart.
See if you see the icon for Picasa  ::) , no?

Second , a simple way to add applications installed at the menu is this:
Open Terminal , type Picasa , Click on the icon for picasa (In the top left), clicking the right mouse button, option to add application menu or favorites.

Sorry Ray but I an not able to duplicate your problem. I did a clean install of the E-17 (full) then added picasa and it shows in the menu. I even changed the theme to match the one you are using. Create a new user and see if the new user has it in the menu. If so then you got something screwed up in your regular user.

Try adding a new user to see if the problem is system wide or only in your current account.

Thanks all, I have added a new user, logged out, logged back in as the new user, still no Picasa in any menu although it runs from a terminal. I'll try Agust's other suggestion tomorrow - been a long day today.

Thanks for the replies.

This gets stranger, I have the same full E17 installed as a virtual machine in my VMware Workstation 7, currently running on a Win7 Ultimate computer so I installed Picasa from Synaptic exactly the same as my stand alone computer and lo and behold there was the Picasa icon right where it should be. I have checked both systems, they appear to be identical, both installed to multiple partitions, a / partition, a /home partition, a /mail partition, a /storage partition, the only variation would seem to be that on the virtual E17 I have a second /storage partition and on the stand alone a /tmp partition.

One thing that does seem odd is that when I check my home partition it is shown as Root/home/ray (using Dolphin) no Thunar etc on the stand alone machine but using Thunar in the virtual machine shows it as the normal /home/ray

Yikes this is very confusing for us oldies.
