Webcam programs ?
« on: November 17, 2010, 07:08:29 AM »
I have been building a EE Pc for my daughter for Christmas and so far everything works
flawlessly.
What I would like to do is find a decent program where she can use her web cam(built in, and working)
to use over the internet with her friend.
Does anyone know of any good programs I could use in this type of application.
I have tested the cam in XCam, and it records, as well as takes pictures.
But I am unfamiliar with what programs will work with what I would like it to do.

Thanks.

Hi ,i don't know of a stand alone one on one program.
Amsn works for webcam chat but each party has to have a hotmail email account and there is gyachi a Yahoo based chat client.
hope this helps

I will try those programs.
And I am pretty sure it will be yahoo based, thanks.
I should mention that the OS is KDE 2010.
All my kids (3) use the PcLinuxOS system,
they like the way everything seems to work for them.
As I have since 2007, thanks again for the help.

Well i'm pretty sure thats what she'll be useing, but
she's 17 and unpredictable with what programs she'll use.
But what ever I can get to work for her she'll love.
Thanks again.

It most likely depends on what facilities Yahoo itself provides.

I would imagine most kids will have a free Skype account which allows IM, voice and video.

There is Google talk -- or whatever they call it -- chat from a browser ......

Kopete works with both msn and yahoo. I can't get video to work with gyachi but I use that for chat.

I got the video to work with gyachi, but I could'nt get the voice to work with the video though.
Is there some kind of voip I need to install also to get this to work?
