ZenMini help wireless fault-solved
« on: November 13, 2010, 10:27:49 AM »
Hi guys
Wireless was working but has failed. Tried it under root but no luck, booted from live CD and was working so i guess its a config fault.

In Control center the hardware says intel corp Pro7Wireless 220 BG (calexio2) Network, when i checked this under live CD it said eth1 intel corp Pro7Wireless 220 BG (calexio2) Network.  When i try to configure it the message says "Unable to find network interface for selected device (using IPW2200 driver )".

Today i installed Privoxy from Synaptic and have been trying to configure that, all was well before, so i have uninstalled it and being very new to Linux am struggling to rectify the problem. Hardware is IBM T43 40GB, 2Gb Ram, and most of the FN keys work even got OSD with them, only FN+F5 have never worked which toggles between bluetooth and wireless and i haven,t found a cure for this. The wireless LED has also stopped working last couple of days.
Another thing i tried was another kernel 2.6.32.24-pclos1.bfs but this didn,t help so have reverted back to 2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs.

Hi,

It looks like you are talking about several different things in the same topic. Could you concentrate on just the wireless problem, that would make it easier to get into the problem.

What is that wifi card ? Please copy here into code tags what the console returns when you invoke as root "lspci".

Hi,

The driver chosen by drakxnet is correct. You can try this:
go to network connections section in PCC and remove all connections. Then, configure a new wireless connection.

If this is not ok, then try to activate network-auth in services, to make it start at boot, reboot, and retry to configure the wireless connection.

If this fails, come back here and give back the content of the command as root of "lsmod".

Hi,

I am not a specialist, but I would start with removing all nat, firewall, conntrack, and stuff likable to create diversion in the network scheme. Why do you have pcmcia on ? If you have internal intel wireless, you could deactivate pcmcia (and yenta-socket with it).

When you type as root "iwlist scan" what do you get ? And when you type as root "ifconfig -a" what do you get ?

Hi,

I don't know how you can get it to work with the usb dongle, there is no wireless seen whatsoever.

What type of connection is provided by your ISP ?

What dongle is it? The more details you provide, the better the chance we can help you.
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

Hi Xero
The usb dongle,Vodafone, is working fine the problem is the built in wireless. When trying to add new connection in PCC i get this,"unable to find network interface for selected device(using ipw22200 driver)
this is from the log when trying to add connection
Quote
15:50:51 drakconnect[3942]: running: /bin/rpm -q --qf %{name} wireless-tools
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: running: dmidecode
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: Found settings for driver "ipw2200" in category "network::connection::wireless"
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: No kernel_module package for module "ipw2200" is required, skipping
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: No tools package for module "ipw2200" is required, skipping
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: Required firmware package for module "ipw2200" is already installed, skipping
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: Loading module ipw2200
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: running: /sbin/modprobe ipw2200
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: running: /sbin/modprobe -n ipw2200
15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: Settings for driver "ipw2200" applied

15:50:53 drakconnect[3942]: running: /sbin/modprobe -n ipw2200

In the network center the wireless card is there but hasnt got eth1 next to it, the others have eth0 pppo etc
It all used to work and still does using the live CD, i think ive messed up something somewhere

Under services when i start wlan i get these messages

/etc/wlan/shared:line71:[:too many arguments
/etc/wlan/shared:line92:/etc/wlan/shared.*:No such file or directory
