E17 and Vmware Workstation
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:34:13 PM »
I have E17 installed on a spare computer with 512mb ram and essentially using it for my email and web browsing. Running beautifully.

I decided to install it as a virtual machine in my Vmware Workstation 7.2 which is using Win7 as host. Installed correctly, now updating via Synaptic. I want to use this as a testbed to check out the Enlightenment options without crashing my email machine. I have installed Vmware tools but they do not seem to work properly, if at all. on the Enlightenment desktop, specifically the automatic resizing of the desktop is not functioning at all. Has any one been successful in running E17 as a virtual machine in Vmware.

All other linux versions including Pclinuxos, Full Monty, Ultimate edition and a few others including LXDE and XFCE resize the desktop correctly so it looks like an E17 peculiarity. Any suggestions as to how to make it work.

I assume it's related but, although the VirtualBox guest additions work with E-17, 95% of them anyway. I can get full screen but i can't drag a window to re-size the screen as I can in other versions of PCLOS. BTW, you may want to be sure to take out the VirtualBox additions that come with PCLOS. They very well could conflict.

Thanks for the reply. I have just installed task-lxde to my Enlightenment desktop (the virtual one) and it works perfectly with my Workstation so I guess it's something to do with E17. I'll try task-xfce and see how that goes, but unfortunately looks like I might not be able to do much testing with E17 - bummer.

good luck, I run many virtual guests and they can be a nightmare to get working. And they will never work exactly as they do on hardware. I read about people trying to test various Linux distros "virtually". I don't know how they realistically can with all the pitfalls. Virtual machines however suit my purposes.
