PCMan won't let me be root. (SOLVED, THANKS)
« on: November 09, 2010, 04:00:09 PM »
Before my Great Update I could 'open this folder as root' form the top menus of PCMan. Now I get a scalding for trying, and am taken to the Preferences>Advanced choices and asked for a command. I don't know what to tell the thing. Could someone please enlighten me. Thanks.  ::)

In the "Switch user command" field, type  - gksu %s -

Then click on "Close"

The next time you pick that option, it should ask for the root password.

Bless you. Non-denominationally of course. The magic incantation, once writ, did the business. It's easy when one knows how, isn't it.   :)

Guys,
Just under the entry field there is an example line. There are 2 examples... xterm -e %s and gksu %s. The first example is a call for the terminal named xterm. The second is a call for gksu, the root login window that you see when starting Synaptic, PCC and etc.

(Just to add the info.)

I recognised the command as one of those in > Advanced that I didn't have the testacular fortitude to speculate with. Just needed a hand to hold!

Growing some "fortitude" can yield results. Just remember what you did so you can set it back if it don't work.  ;D

I thought you would recognize it. :) I added the info so that anyone who is looking for the answer and reads this thread can see not only what option will work but why.
