« on: November 11, 2010, 10:26:56 AM »
Hi,

Can somebody tell me how can I configure it? Is it possible to compile the proprietary drivers?

Thanks,

It doesn't seem to work with me. I've installed PCLinuxOS using fbdev and when booting with the kernel option acpi=off otherwise systems crashes or goes to a black screen.
I go to PCC select Radeon HD2000 and later (radeon/fglrx). Install with synaptic.

After installing I do the aticonfig --initial -f, but when reboot Xorg crashes, I begin a root session, i do startx and I get something like

libdri.so cannot open sahred object file: no such file or directory
(EE) failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so
(EE) failed to load module "dri" (loader failed, 7)
(EE) fglrx(0): Invalid video BIOS signature !
(EE) fglrx(0): GetBIOS Parameter failed
(EE) fglrx(0): PreInitAdapter failed
(EE) fglrx(0): PreInit failed
(EE) screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

Any help? Thanks in advanced

OK, try changing to the xorg vesa driver removing the dkms and flgrx video packages rebooting and then install them again.
Then logout, goto console 1 (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and log in as root.
enter drakconf resetup your video card and reboot.

No, it is not working either. I've uninstalled dkms-fglrx, fglrx-control-center and x11-driver-video-fglrx and installed them again after a reboot. It appered a message telling me acpi has to be on. I activated it on the boot section. I did that drakconf part, but after rebooting I get a black screen, and in safe mode it seems that something kills processes and I get a prompt without necessity to log in.

In the other hand I don't know what is that acpi on or off. In any distro I tried to install even PCLinuxOs I needed to put it = off to run on fbdev or whatever.

Any of you can help. After five days trying 4 distros and having the same crash problem I'm starting to love Bill Gates (I'm serious).

Greetings,

Online Ramchu

If you are trying to use the live CD
Start it up in console mode
At the login prompt type - guest
At the password prompt type -  guest
then type -  XFdrake
it will ask for authentication -- type - guest

Then use the arrow up and down and the enter button to make your selection's
Select your graphics driver

and when you have finished and you are returned to the prompt
type -  startx

This should bring you to the GUI desktop

This is not my point, Ramchu. I've achieve to install PCLinux using Xorg|fbdev because even using vesa it crashed. After installing it it works if I put acpi=off (I read it in a Fedora forum), but I want to use my ati mobility. I've done what andy told me but when I restart using acpi=on or acpi=off the system crashes, I go to a black blocked screen (even ctrl+alt+dlt doen't restart the computer) and when running the safe mode I get a single user prompt that it seems it is a crashed version of the usual console because it is logged in already. If I put startx there I go to the black blocking screen.

Any help?

Thanks in advance

Ok, let's forget the proprietary drivers. How can I install the opensource ATI drivers in PCLOS2010?

You set them up the same way vicanfon, just don't use the proprietary driver when prompted
