(Solved) No menu icon for SMplayer in Zen-Mini?
« on: November 10, 2010, 02:07:00 PM »
Just loaded it a short time ago as an alternative to just installing VLC, works great, but no icon for menu. Any tips?

Hi,
The gnome-icon-theme has been updated and some icon names have changed. You have to open the file /usr/share/applications/smplayer.desktop in a text editor, look at the name given for "Icon=" and then browse your icon theme directories (I think in the directory 32x32 should be ok) and find the one that looks like what you are execting for Smplayer, then change the name in the .desktop file.

(in my main machine, I have no icons in the menus, as using Openbox only, and in the applications it's gartoon-redux-icon-theme at work... I like theses childish icons).

Thanks Melodie! The icons were already in the hi-color section, only I couldn't/didn't need to open with a text editor, but could open the folder as root, and right-clicked the properties tab, and clicked on the blank icon box, then navigated to the aforementioned hi-color folder under apps, chose the 64x64 as the folder icon, and it automagically applied the smaller ones to menus.

Thanks again and i'll mark this solved :)

I didn't understand what you did, but it's late here, so maybe this is the reason why. I am happy you solved it.

 :D :D

Basically i'm saying you solved it for me ;) the methodology was just a tiny bit different, and I wanted to post it in detail for other folks who might have this minor issue.
