I've noticed there's 'modprobe usb_snd_audio' in /etc/rc.d/rc.local
Try commenting it out (put a # in front of the line) and reboot

Commented it out still no good. I have it blacklisted everywhere I found it and commented out in several places and it still finds it and starts it instead of my Sound Blaster card.

One more:
Try editing modprobe.conf again and add this lines:

options snd_emu10k1 index=1
options snd-usb-audio index=2

This should make sure your soundcard get's configured before the usb sound driver.

Try adding
Code: [Select]
blacklist snd-usb-audioto /etc/modprobe.conf
and reboot.

Hi,

Wrong place : this must be added in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist. For immediate effect you also must run "rmmod snd-usb-audio".

smurfslover;
Good news the snd-usb-audio is no longer in the lsmod list and the Sound Blaster is. Bad news the Sound Blaster isn't being started at boot, but the PCC System Manager says it is. Now all I have to do is find out why it isn't starting the sound at boot.

Try running alsaconf again, check if service sound in pcc/system/system services is enabled at boot and reboot.

Ran alsaconf and sound worked. Checked PCC/System/Manager and alsa was set to start on boot. Re-booted but sound didn't start.

Ok. After you run alsaconf as root, invoke as root : "alsactl store". It might fix it.

Hi,

Then try this one : install sndconfig and run it as root. Same as before, come back to tell us if that works. Look at it's description in Synaptic first to see if you agree with the idea.

Downloaded and installed sndconfig and it's related files. Opened a root terminal and ran sndconfig. It came back with - found pci sound card - didn't reconize it and counldn't configure it. So that didn't work either. Thanks for trying.

I've been poking around with the sound to see if I could find something. It seems that if I run alsaconf in account one it'll work in account one but not in account two or root. If I run alsaconf in account two it works in account two but stops working in account one and won't run in root. If I run alsaconf in root it only works in root and not in either of the other accounts. I also noticed that in PCC/System/Manager is shows that alsa is running. If I click on a sound file and tell it to open in MPlayer the MPlayer control panel shows it running but no sound. I don't know if any of this is helpful, just thought I'd pass it on.
