that is a gray area, i prefer not to do it, your tips seems to be dangerous in multiple ways

i don't have a mac or a win 7 so you are suggesting alot of...

+1. Windows / Mac fonts are not used by default not because someone did not liked them. Licensing is the keyword. I am not sure is it legal to copy windows font from windows to linux even if you own windows license.

Perhaps installing webcore-fonts from synaptic may help, they are true-type fonts. Might have to read the docs to find out how to use them.

"Explain how this is "dangerous?" I am not suggesting the distro ship like this"

legal concerns, license concerns

fonts are something that microsoft likes to pay atention, about win32 codecs, i don't remember if it comes preinstalled or you add it later form synaptic

nonfree repo contains mostly apps like realplayer free and similar stuff so a comparison between copy/paste contents form another os protected by many laws, contracts and details can't be done

"As far I'm concerned for a generic home user I don't see a problem since my computer came with this little microsoft license sticker on the bottom which I haven't found a use for until now"

again, a gray area, home user against commercial user creating content that can't be sold/shared for a simple font

"Oh BTW, have you ever watched a DVD on your linux computer? Technically that is illegal unless you bought a licensed player because you broke encryption to watch the disc even if you own it"

nice way to make friends in a forum, scaring people with this stuff has been done and also fall in the same gray area where home user won't have problems versus commercial user that will

it is not the same create content than use content created by others

that's funny, i was thinking the same about your reply with the win32 and dvd stuff  ::)

still, those fonts remain in a gray(more black for mac) area and i not going to hunt all internet to download that content
