Does Konqueror work in enlightenment? SOLVED
« on: November 06, 2010, 04:26:31 PM »
I am playing with e17 light for the first time. Downloaded K. via Synaptic with all the associated required packages. When I try to access it it is completely "empty", i.e. no folders whatsoever? Can someone help?

Is your Location Toolbar (address bar) also empty? Normally Konqueror will show whatever the location bar is pointing to.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by location toolbar

The box somewhere under the menu bar where you enter URLs or paths to folders you want to view. (To toggle it on and off: Settings-->Toolbars Shown-->Location Toolbar.)

After looking at all the toolbars you mentioned, none of which had any content, I am now left with a blank page that has only "Hide side bar"  split view vertical  split view horizontal and a field on the right in which I can type a URL which then lets me use K. as a web browser. But I have no idea how to act as a file manager, even though I clicked on file manager to begin with. There are also numerous crashes with error messages like 6515 signal 11  (segmentation fault).

This sound like the "Extra" toolbar, which means that you've probably lost your "Main" toolbar. You can toggle it on again by clicking on "Settings" on the menu bar. (And then on "Toolbars Shown" and "Main Toolbar".) The Main toolbar is particularly useful because there's a button on it that takes you to your home page or home folder. (By default it works a bit differently depending on whether you've started Konqueror as a file manager or a web browser.)

If you've lost your menu bar too you can get it back by clicking Ctrl+M.

That field is the location bar (address bar) that I was asking about. Instead of typing a URL, try typing /home/<your-name>. Or just ~ -- and hit Enter.

That may be a sign that you have a more serious problem. Are you certain that your system was fully updated when you installed Konqueror?

Thanks bald Brick, when I put /home/eb into the right field I suddenly found an uncontrollable multiplication of K. icons in the bottom panel. It really went haywire! I decided to uninstall Konqueror and try for Dolphin. Now, magically, I have both Konqueror and Dolphin working, thanks to you have also my menu bar back. Maybe I should have had them downloaded both at the same time. If I expressly removed Konqueror, why is it back? It looks like it got reinstalled together with Dolphin again. Synaptic concurs that it is still (or again) installed in my system.

Konqueror and Dolphin depend on each other in many mysterious ways.  ;D

I have the impression all kde stuff depends to each other, in order to install one application you need to install half of kde.
