It looks like mounting and un-mounting removable devices is made easier when udisks is installed. You can read about the "why" details in this post:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,79046.msg682357.html#msg682357I also found that ntfs-3g is required to access Ntfs partitions through gvfs, but then Ntfs partition must not be mounted in fstab, otherwise it messes gvfs which then can't mount properly linux partitions.
I would suggest to add udisks as depends to pcmanfm, and ntfs-3g advised for people having an Ntfs partition : as a post-install message.
