RealVNC
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:23:47 AM »
I installed RealVNC on my OpenSUSE laptop and PCLinuxOS desktop. I have a ENDSL-AR4 router that connects both to the gateway. I can control the laptop from the desktop but not the other way around. Both are already configured as 192.168.10.1 and .2 respectively.

Can you be a bit more specific on where the connection fail like what error exactly do you get when it fail to connect. Most programs will report the error msg when started from the terminal.

First, make sure the vncserver is running on pclinuxos and then when you enter pclinuxos address on your opensuse to connect, append ":N" to the address where N- 1,2,3 going up ie. your pclinuxos computer has "192.168.10.2" address and hence. try to connect with :192.168.10.2:1", if that fails, try with :192.168.10.2"
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Hello,
Where did you install RealVNC from, as I don't think it is in the repositories?
trustytrev. :)
If there's a harder way to do something I'll probably find it.

You may also want to give  nomachine nx  a whirl. It works so much better (and easier) for Linux-to-Linux and Windows-to-Linux for me that I haven't run RealVNC for a long time now. Its only downside is that it does NOT do Linux-to-Windows, but that is not a problem for me. :D
