"Failed to launch Nautilus" error on bluetooth connection
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:31:31 AM »
hi everyone,

I'm wondering if you can help me with this: I've paired two computers (an Apple iMac G5 and an IBM ThinkPad T42) via bluetooth. The IBM has got PClinuxOS 2010 LXDE as its operating system. The two computers were successfully paired - after installing Blueman on the IBM. I tested the connection, and I can send files back and forth via bluetooth.

There's only one thing I cannot understand (and sorry I don't seem to be able to find info on it): though I can browse the IBM hard disk through the Apple, I cannot do the other way around. On the IBM/PClinuxOS, if I right-click on the bluetooth icon>browse files on device>Apple iMac G5, I get the following error message:

"failed to launch Nautilus. Errno 2. No such file or directory. You can enter an alternate browser in service settings".

Can you please help? Thank you.

The application is looking for the Nautilus browser which is not installed in KDE.
You can add a different one in the settings .....  try Konqueror.

KDE? is LXDE a KDE operating system? I can't find Konqueror. I have Firefox and Chrome installed.

Also if I go to Preferences at Bluetooth Manager, I cannot find an option to change the settings and set Firefox as my browser.

Can you please help? Thank you.

Sorry I missed the LXDE reference in your post   ???

Can you not install Nautilus? .......  it is a File Manager like like PCManFM .....

I only have LXDE-mini installed here and have not had BT working.

EDIT
OK, right click on the Blueman icon in the tray ......  Select Local Services ......... Transfer in the left pane .......... Advanced in the right pane ...........  there you can specify which file browser you wish to use .......

Thanks Just19! :)

...but now I really feel I'm really stuck: if I right-click on the Blueman icon > Browse files on device > Apple iMac (the other computer in the room) I get the following:

(if nautilus is set as a browser)

Could not display "obex://[00:14:51:91:85:E5]/"
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
Please select another viewer and try again.

(if firefox is set as a browser)

Firefox pops up...at this stage I don't know what to do to browse files on the other computer...Firefox>File>OpenFile>???

Any idea?

'fraid not ........  I only ever use BT to get some pics from a phone, so have no experience with what you are doing .......  sorry   ???

All I can think of is to have a look at the Nautilus plugins in Synaptic to see if there is something you have not installed that might help ......  nautilus-filesharing?

regards.

Thank you but it didn't work adding the filesharing - it still gives out the same error message.

Hope that someone can help? I can't find anything on the subject.

Thank you again. Regards

sorry...just thinking aloud. If Nautilus doesn't help, I should find out how to browse files on another computer when it's connected to mine via bluetooth...

how do I do this? all I can do with Firefox is to browse my own hard disk, I can't see the other computer's hard disk...

is there maybe an address I need to type to get there?

obex://[00:14:51:91:85:E5]/

from a previous post, would seem to be what you want.

I guess you have all firewalls disabled on the machine/s in question?

Do you mean to type obex://[00:14:51:91:85:E5]/ on the browser (firefox) address bar? I get the following message if I do:

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address because the protocol (obex) isn't associated with any program.

I downloaded a number of files related to Obex from Synaptic, but it didn't help - tried again with both Nautilus (I get the same error message as previously reported

Could not display "obex://[00:14:51:91:85:E5]/"
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
Please select another viewer and try again.

and Firefox - Firefox opens and I don't know what to do with it :)

I also disabled all firewalls + re-booted, to no avail...what to do? is there maybe a different "viewer" (I guess this is what Obex is?) I can use with Firefox?

As the location of the files you wish to browse are on a MAC, I cannot say as I have never used one.

Is it possible that your install does not recognise the filesystem used on the MAC or that its permissions do not allow the Thinkpad to access them?

Just guessing ..........

You might be right, I didn't think about that. I'll try to connect to a different machine/OS as soon as I have the chance to do so + get back on this on this thread. Thanks tons in the meantime :)
