Contrary to my login name, I'm a newbie to linux.

After doing lot of reading online, I liked PCLinuxOS. I installed LXDE version on my older DELL laptop yesterday. It connected to wireless fne and did some updates too.

This morning I installed several applications in categories internet, graphics, office, sound & video, programming and other but nothing related to desktop environment/desktop managers.

When I restarted, my LXDE desktop vanished and I now have an all black/empty KDE desktop. I can't figure out what I did wrong and how to switch back to LXDE. I don't even know when and how I installed KDE.

Any suggestions to revert to LXDE are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

This looks terrible, is it the same thing that what happened here ? →
New lxde install problem <SOLVED>

I am not sure of the solution right at the moment, this is why I would like you to paste the content of your last logs from Synaptic (you did use Synaptic to install your packages didn't you ?)

You just need to start Synaptic, go to the menu "File > History" : click on the arrow to display the name of the files, select it or them one by one and copy/paste here between codes tags (the button with a "#" in the editor above the field where you write).

Hi, thank you for the pointer. I will go through that post to understand the cause.

For now, the issue seems resolved. After repeated search on the forum, I found suggestions on how to change default desktop manager during login. It worked after a couple of attempts and I'm now back on LXDE.

To your question, yes I did use synaptic to install my updates. One of them seems to have switched the default option.

Thanks.
