xcomposite and xdamage not available?
« on: October 30, 2010, 01:11:19 PM »
I put this topic here because I think it is a hardware problems (ATI video card)

I'm looking for some help with a new laptop that I am installing PCLOS on.  It is a HP G62-340US, it has an ATI video card, 3 gigs of memory, and a 350 gig hard drive.  Everything loads okay, however, when I try to use the KDE desktop effects this message is under the check box, "desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issue: Required X Extensions (Xcomposite and Xdamage) are not available.  What does that mean, and is there a way to correct / install the needed X Extensions?

Thanks for your help, Bullitt

Thank you 'Texstar' for that. Although I did not ask the question, I had been wondering about that 'message' and how to fix it!
I am continually surprised by the amount of help that is available in this 'distro' forum (which also confirms that I have NOT rtfm!)
