Just as an update, I dumped the video in question as I think it's coding may have been corrupted in some way.  I'm not sure.  but, I did use VLC to record some video off a disk.  The file size is well over 100 megs.  It plays back with absolutely no problems!:)

I'm wondering if the linux kernel-2.6.34-35 update will be all that is needed?  Or wil an updated video driver be needed,as well?

i believe that Texstar will update xorg and other stuff too, a big update should be on way soon but this speculation form my part

also i think that we won't have that kernel, probably 2.6.37 or more recent but that is also speculation

mmm, adding testing in Synaptic as in

http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/
pclinuxos/2010
main updates nonfree kde4 games testing

reload and you find it.
after install remove testing or else you can get unwanted updates.

Then that means it's still being tested?

you know that we shouldn't be discussing or mentioning how to use testing section?

specially with kernel

we are talking about normal repos

If it's an solution for the GPU problems you can check it out, with the possibillity to switch back to the original kernel, the original is not removed. So if there is a problem with the new kernel, choose in grub the older one, After boot, in Synaptic, reinstall the older and remove the new one. Did it a few times while testing for new Intel chipsets, SATA and WiFi card support.
And, it is all at your own responsibillity.

Have fun,
Ed

no, there is rules against this, please read

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,2401.0.html

"10. DO NOT discuss anything about the unstable directories on the forums. The forums are for support of
the stable directories ONLY. Current  stable directories are,  main extra nonfree kde kde4"

it is your responsability if a net unsupported in testing section kernel breaks a machine, Texstar keeps this kernel as unstable because it breaks video and other things, something in testing is there for a reason

Ed,

While I appreciate the info, T6 is correct.  It's in the testing area for a reason.  Still being tested.:)  But nice to know it's coming.:)

However, it does bring up the very important question I have for myself and that's the procedure on how to update the kernel.  I've done it once or twice before and need to review the steps involved.:)
