Well now kjpetrie that got me closer.  Now I  have a list and chose the first one only.  After it loads and I mark all upgrades I then tell it to apply all upgrades.  Then I get this error message.  What is your next suggestion?

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

That means you waited too long to upgrade your install. You can either download a fresh iso or you can update in increments until you get it fully updated. Click on the custom button in Synaptic and select upgradeable upstream and do a few at a time.

Well, I should just let the experts explain it.  ;D ;D ;D

Ooops.  I was wondering about that.  In all honesty would I be better off just reloading a fresh version then?

Maybe you can add that "RESOLVED" to the title of your first post, so everyone can see it's solved....  ;)
(you can do that by modifying your first post)
