Problem adding HP Printer in LXDE
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:31:30 PM »
I am having problems adding a HP Photosmart C4480 printer to PC Linux OS LXDE. I used the hp-setup utility in a root terminal. The ppd file was not filled in, so I browsed to the ppd file for the Photosmart C4400 series. I get an error message, and the printer does not get added. See code below:

Code: [Select]

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.10.6)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 9.0

Searching... (bus=usb, search=(None), desc=0)
/warning: No PPD found for model photosmart_c4400_series using new algorithm. Trying old algorithm...
error: No PPD found for model photosmart_c4400 using old algorithm.
error: No appropriate print PPD file found for model photosmart_c4400_series
error:  Printer queue setup failed.  Please restart CUPS and try again.

Done.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this printer added? Thanks.

I was able to install the printer and scanner successfully by adding it through the PLOS control panel.  :)

On my PCLXDE install I went into the PCC System Services and made sure that both cups and portreserve were selected to start at boot.  With both services running, the HP Device Manager would then successfully find the correct ppd file and install my printer (an HP Photosmart c6280).

+1

Go PCC>Configure Your Computer>Hardware>Configure printing and scanning.

LXDE will find the printer (or it invariably does), and installs it.

XSane will configure the scanner.
