All windows of open applications rearrange themselves neatly into a square on my desktop when moving mouse toward the " close " button .
Moving over one of the windows and clicking on it takes me back to that window - clicking on the desktop shows the desktop.

Please help me make it stop !

I have tried unsuccessfully to fix this problem since PCLinux2010 came out - I must be missing something ?

Thanks in advance !

Try going to:

Configure Your Desktop >> Workspace Appearance & Behaviour  >> Window Behavior > Screen Edges

and disabling the corner where it's set (I think you right click on the corner) and set No Action

Edit - should of asked - do you have Compiz enabled?

No compiz.
All corners set to " no action "

It's very irritating when something so basic requires this much work...

There is probably a search term that would lead me straight to the solution, if I knew what the thing I was searching for was called ...

Okay - try

Configure Your Desktop >> Workspace Appearance & Behaviour  >> Desktop Effects >> All Effects

and "untick" them all - and press Apply

Not certain but it wouldn't hurt just to restart your desktop  (logout and back in)

If that works you can add the Effects back one at a time.

Thanks, but that's not it either.

I have tried pretty much everything I can find in " Configure your desktop " with no luck.

To be a little more specific, moving the mouse pointer anywhere but strictly within the boundaries of the window in the corner marked with an "X" causes this - technically it's probably a feature that is of use for another feature I don't use.

Even a slight movement past the outside of the "X" causes the windows to shrink, rearrange themselves, and require an extra click to regain focus of the window I am trying to close so I can close it.

If you move the mouse pointer with accuracy, and do not move past the boundaries everything works fine.

Retraining gray matter and new glasses are functioning as a work around at this point.

But I would really like to turn this ( to me ) useless feature off ...

Thanks!

Only other things that spring to mind is right clicking on an application titlebar and choosing either

advanced > special window settings

or

configure window behaviour

Have you tried creating a new user account and seeing if it happens there?

Menotu,

Thank you for your tireless search to find a solution to my problem.

As it turns out, I am an Idiot.

Yes Compiz was enabled ( earlier I said it was not ) and the settings are in compiz.

Again Thank you and please accept my appologies for wasting your time.
