Ati Mobility radeon 530v video playback issue
« on: October 25, 2010, 09:58:26 AM »
Hi,
I have HP ProBook with Ati Mobility radeon 530v graphics card which is basically renamed 4350 and I have configured it with radeon HD2000 and later (radeon/fglrx) driver from repo. Everything including desktop effects works ok but there is one quite annoying issue. When I watch video in media players I get a little bit distorted playback. Although it's watchable, in fast moving scenes there are what appears to be something like horizontal lines so that the image is blurred or shifted in horizontal direction. I find it most noticeable in VLC, less in Kaffeine and the best is Dragon player but still noticeable. I also noticed it when playing flash videos inside chromium. Played around a little bit with settings in vlc and Kaffeine but the deafaults seemed to be the best.

Is there anyone who has the same card and shares the same problem or anyone who can help me solve this annoyance?

thanks.

it is possible that this card using compiz is not friendly with vlc, if you are using kde desktop effects turn them off to compare(same with compiz if used)

in this case you could need to install the ati proprietary drivers available on repos

i haven't done it recently but you can find other posts in this forum explaining what packages are required and what to do after you install them

another nice player is smplayer, you can configure the video options menu in it to make it use a certain video output plugin, also with vlc, usually x11 or xv are good options

doesn't matter if the desktop effects are on or off and I think I have the proprietary driver installed.

if you haven't installed it and enabled it you are not using it
