LXDE : can't start LXDE anymore (update not complete)
« on: October 22, 2010, 10:47:24 PM »
Hi there,

Here is the situation:

I use LXDE
I have started to update the system, but since I'm living on a island with a small internet connexion, I have to shutdown the computer before the update was finish. So only some package was installed.

When I start my comp again, everything work as usual, but when I enter my password, I got :
/a blank screen for some sec
/a warning pop up saying that my session laster less than 10 sec
/I get back to the login screen
/ an so on

I can switch to terminal mode and log without trouble, but it seems that my LXDE config doesn't work anymore.

I suppose I have to finish the update, but I don't know how to do that with a command line (not using the GUI synaptic).
Can someone tell me how to do that please ?

Thx

Tereva

PS : by the way if someone can tell me how to set the keyboard layout in french while using the comande line, I would apreciate that too :)

I think this is still valid.  su to root and do this.

apt-get update

And then

apt-get dist-upgrade

Combine the 2 commands:
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

Hi,

in tty : "loadkeys fr" (need to be root)
in X console : "setxkbmap fr" (no need to be root).

Hi again,

Thx for the help !
I had in mind not to use the apt-get command (haven't know about the dist-upgrade option).

I could finish the update, and I can use LXDE again :)

The panel is not transparent anymore (??) but everybody know that I suppose if I judge by the large topic on the question I still have to read.

thx again

Tereva

PS : Merci Melodie, toujours pénible ces histoires de clavier ! Il n'y a pas moyen de mettre cela qq part (genre un rc.qq chose) pour que cela soit lancé systématiquement ?

Hi Tereva,

The transparency in Lxpanel might come from the way the new PCManFM manages the desktop. Please take a look here:
<TEASER> LXpanel transparency works ! ;-)

For questions in French, it would be very nice of you to come to the "French" forum, where I will stumble upon your questions to answer to you ! :D

Sure there is a way : you go to PCC, Hardware, Keyboard settings. Choose generic 105 > French, you're done ! If you happen to see your exact brand and model keyboard in the list, you may give it a try too.  :)

Or, you could post your question here so that all users (including those who don't speak French) can benefit.  ;D

You mean in English ? Because I just said "For questions in French". Oh and English forums have enough questions to answer to don't they ? ;D

Tereva, you are most welcome to French forum any time you want ! :D
