Lost virtual box during update
« on: October 21, 2010, 11:24:32 PM »
Hey guys, I just did an update and I lost my virtual box install.  Is there anyway to get it back?  I just got it all setup with all the Windows programs I needed and shared folders and everything. I really don't want to have to go through all that work installing everything again and trying to get it all setup again.  Please help.

Ohh, this in on PCLOS2010 KDE with current updates.

Don't freak. Because VB is installed by a script, this is the way it gets updated.

Just run get-virtualbox again. (if you need it you can get get-virtualbox from synaptic)

Everything will be fine and you will have an updated virtualbox.

Yep ezas is right here. If a new version Vbox comes out the update comes with a script to download and install it. The old one is "conveniently" removed in preparation.  ;)
So all you need to do is run "Get Oracle Virtual Box" which you find in the menu > More Applications > Emulators

I hope you guys are right.  I've been freeking a little bit.  I was just preparing to give my wife her new system tomorrow and I was just making some last minute touches before I went to bed.  I'll give it a try and see.  I'll sleep better tonight if it works like you said.

OK guys new problem.  I thought I was good last night after my update but apparently it didn't stick.  My wife went to start WinXP in the virtual machine and it failed to load.  So I checked for updates and it looked like their was another VMbox update.  So I ran it again expecting everything to work like it did last night.  But no go. I now get an error that says it was terminated unexpectedly during startup because of signal 11.  Does this mean anything to anybody?  Is their anyway to get my machine back?

Thanks Tex, a reboot fixed it.  I guess I just go into panic mode too quickly.
