Bluetooth on acer
« on: October 21, 2010, 07:57:24 PM »
Ok I have an acer aspire 3680.  I have both blueman and bluez installed and cannot get my bluetooth to work.  blue man will not start by itself, i always have to start it by doing bluetoothd -u, then it will start, but everything is greyed out.  if i open kbluetooth its the same thing, everything is greyed out. what do i need to do to get the bluetooth working?? There is also a bluetooth switch on the laptop that doesnt light up either when trying to turn everything on

Hi redjama,

I'm typing this on an Acer Aspire 3680.  Originally, it had windose vista on it and that lasted for less than a day, thanks to PCLinuxOS.  I was never able to get the bluetooth switch to work.  I then opened up the laptop to discover that the switch was connected to nothing.  There wasn't even a bluetooth chip in the machine.  While the specs showed bluetooth, it wasn't there.  I then put a bluetooth usb dongle in it and all is well.

There's only one way to find out.  You can access the location where it should be from the bottom panel.  Believe me, I was not a happy person, but it would have cost me more to send it back.  I got the ACER on close out to begin with and the usb dongle I picked up was cheap.

Ok well I found that the blue tooth module is not there.  You can actually purchase the one you need on ebay for about 20 bux. No big deal will probably just pick one up this week

The usb dongle I bought was even less than that.  Wasn't it nice of ACER to put a switch to nothing!!
