Just did a clean install and full update of gnome 2010. With the exception of my apostrophe/quote key, everything is working well.
This has never happened before. When I type a ´ or a ¨ (that´s a quote, not two dots), I have to type them twice to get them to appear. If I don´t hit the apostrophe or quote key twice, it won´t accept the next key press and beeps to alert that I´ve entered an unacceptable key. If I want a quote, I have to hit shift+<quotekey> and then the spacebar. Otherwise, it prints the two dots. " or ¨
It does this in Firefox, Thunderbird, or Leafpad.
My keyboard layout is generic 105-key US international. It´s never done this before. That´s the basic problem. It doesn´t do it as root, so it´s a user/config problem. Typing that last sentence, I notice it squiggles under doesn as a misspelling. Apostrophe S in itś puts the weird accented s if I don´t hit the apostrophe key twice.
Iḿ gonna change my keyboard layout to just US and see if that helps.
EDIT -- Yup. Problem was US International keyboard. I've always used international's before, but something new here was "added" or left out. Sorry for crying wolf.
