(Update and Solved) HP Laserjet P1006
« on: October 21, 2010, 08:44:02 AM »
Anybody else having trouble with the HP P1006 printer?  ??? The only way I can get it to load the firmware driver into the printer memory is to actually open printerdrake every time. I've tried reinstalling the printer and the plugin with the same result. :'( I'm using KDE 4.5.2 fully updated, with kernel 2.6.33.7-pclos4. Also when it finally loads the firmware if I turn it off and then turn it on again, it won't load the firmware again. I have to open PCLOS config center and go through printerdrake again. It's frustrating to say the least.  ???

Just a thought - you could (or mebbe you already have) is when you have printerdrake open go to Options >> Configure Auto Administration >  and check the settings.

Linuzoid,

You're not alone. I don't know if my printer (HP LaserJet P1006) has "died" or if it's some other problem, but I cannot even get the lsusb command from a terminal session to even SEE my printer.

It just won't load that firmware into the printer memory. parnote if you have windows can you print through there? I don't have windows on my machine haven't use it in years. But when I manage to get it to load the firmware, the HP Device Manager reports all is well, I even print the test print and it prints beautiful.

I do have a WinXP box, but not the time (atm) to move the printer to it and try to print from there. And since I never use my WinXP box except for the very RARE occasion, whether it prints on WinXP or not really doesn't matter. My printer has only ever been used with PCLinuxOS ever since I got it.

The fact that lsusb cannot even see my printer may mean that the USB port on the printer has died, and in effect, taken the rest of the functional printer with it. It may be time for me to break down and buy a printer that connects to my router's wired network ports, which would be a much better solution for me.

Cool, I though you might be duel booting, that way you would know if it wasn't your motherboard USB ports.

I sure did, check the setting there.  ;)

Drat!!  ;)

One more offering - have you reinstalled printerdrake? (or mebbe you already have  :D )

You could also try reinstalling harddrake

harddrake description is:

Main Hardware Configuration/Information Tool
The harddrake service is a hardware probing tool run at system boot time to determine what hardware has been added or removed from the system. It then offer to run needed config tool to update the OS configuration.

And doing a full reboot.

Edit: have you tried logging in to another user account  and trying it from there?

Thanks for the suggestions menotu, I reinstalled both, but no go. What I noticed is if I open the PCLOS Control Center and open printerdrake and turn my printer off and on again, it loads the firmware.

Got this printer working, :o I just updated to the new kernel-2.6.37.2-pclos1.bfs-1, now it's working and working really good.  8) All along it must have been the older Kernels. Hats off to Texstar for bringing us this new kernel.

BTW: everything seems faster too.  ;D ;)  8)

Peace
