PCLinuxOS in Linux Format Magazine
« on: October 20, 2010, 04:06:58 AM »
All,

I bought the November 2010 edition of Linux Format - UK publication - because it had a DVD (and a whole pile of other stuff) containing PCLinuxOS 2010.7 KDE 4.4.5 SC

I quote briefly from the DVD index:

Quote
Hello! This month's big distro is PCLinuxOS 2010.07, an excellent all-round desktop distro with roots in the newbie-friendly Mandriva.
If you've never tried PCLinuxOS before then it's well worth exploring - it's not at the number 5 slot in DistroWatch's popularity charts for nothing!
Superb hardware detection, powerful configuration tools and great software makes it a fine Linux flavour.
You can boot the KDE version in Live mode straight from this DVD, or find ISO images (for CD-Rs) of Gnome and Xfce versions in the Distros section.

There is an article in the Magazine itself concerning the ease of installation.

The article merely shows what the rest of us know - that it is really, really easy to install PCLinuxOS.

If I were to voice a concern it is this - the magazine disk dates from the July release of our distro due to the forward
planning demands of the publishing world. I would be concerned that new users would install from the disk and then discover over 700 Megabytes of updates
waiting for them in Synaptic.

The December edition of their magazine is already published so it is too late to ask them to print an addendum that PCLinuxOS is a rolling release and
unless blessed with unlimited bandwidth a PCLinuxOS explorer would do well to download the quarterly release.
