« on: October 17, 2010, 01:56:20 PM »
as the title states I have a SB Creative AWE64 PnP ISA (per the bios), that pcc is not installing.
I googled a bit but to no avail.
here is the lspcidrake:
Card:NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX to GeForce 4: nVidia Corporation|NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] [DISPLAY_VGA] (rev: b2)

I noticed the ISA Bridge is unknown could that be the issue?

I couldnt get into alsaconf from the term from my home account, switched to root and was able to use alsaconf, it found and installed the sound card, i rebooted (old windows habit) but still no sound and pcc doesnt even see the card.

is it a isa pnp?

does it need irq configuration and other settings?  jumpers or dip switch?

isa is old you know?  most integrated soundcards will do it better than a awe64 and will consume less power/space in your pc

i believe that the kernel we use now is not friendly with old isa parts but i could be wrong, not much isa hardware around to test and verify what i say  :-\

well, seems like i do have sound, at least when watching youtube with chrome :)
but LXMusic and SMPlayer are not working, Ill install a different player and see if  that one works.
edit: installed vlc, works with my mp3 and mp4's, not playing sound from divx, must be a codec issue
Shouldnt a ISA card show in PCC?

In SMPlayer or VLC you can change your Audio to use different outputs/settings.

In a root terminal screen (Ctrl-Alt-F2) Old Sounblasters are initialyzed by:
modprobe sb
modprobe sb8
modprobe sb16
modprobe sbawe
They are not all available anymore, for you to check one by one....

setting up the card with
alsaconf

Go back to your Graphic screen with Ctrl-Alt-F7(or F8) and check your audio.

if you found the right one you can add (as root) sb, sb8, sb16, or sbawe to
/etc/modprobe.preload

Quote
not playing sound from divx
But you have sound allready, maybe missing
win32-codecs-all
Install from Synaptic

Good luck
Ed

its all working now :)
The kids and I just finished watching bolt(streamed from an XP machine),
Im surprised how well it ran on smplayer(after i switched the sound driver to alsa sb16), vlc was choppy.
so to get everything working,
as root run alsaconf installed my sound card
install proper divx codecs (from synaptic)
in smplayer changed output to alsa sb16
got sound :)
thanks for the help   ;D

there was a post talking about gameport here on this forum but i would recommend you to get a cheap usb controller, similar to a playstation 2 controller, more comfortable and easier to configure

i recommend you a logitech dual action, it works without a single question and is recognized by most emulators i have used over the years

i also connected a xbox360 controller wired controller and worked, well, i just plugged it and was recognized so didn't played with it
