??  why not just unlock widgets then right click ...lets say FF and add to desktop ??  or am I missing a whole chapter up there  :-\

lets say you have 17 desktops, each configured to use its own activity, how do you tell the icon to show up on desktop 13? The answer to this question was what he was seeking.

The above works if all desktops are configured to use the same activity.

See... I knew there was a chapter missing  ;D ;D

just looked at this a little bit closer and this is what i have found out. KDE ships with two application launchers, application launcher and application launcher menu. PClinuxos uses application launcher menu and this does not allow icons to be dropped on the desktop from the menu but application launcher does.

I use application launcher and it works here and i just assume it also works in application launcher(my bad)

You can temporarily add the application launcher and then drag the icons you want and then remove it as a workaround while waiting for a solution.

i meant locking and unlocking of the widget, i just tested it again and icons on the traditional menu(pclinuxos default) can not be dragged and dropped on the desktop but icons on the

yes, the desktop can be locked but i meant locked widget in this case, bad use of terminologies on my part ..

Almost forgot ........  have you some info on this?
I don't understand what it is that is being locked ......  or how.

Any info appreciated   ;)

if you have kickoff menu(application launcher), you can click the menu, then go to "leave" icon and it will show its contents, the "session" section has three icons, logout, lock and switch user. Click "lock" and the desktop will lock and turn totally black demanding a user password to unlock it. This is "locking the desktop", the other one is "locking the widgets" since the desktop is usable but the widgets cant be moved.

the default traditional menu has this option too, just click the menu icon->leave->lock screen
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Ah, thank you .......  another misunderstanding due to terminology ......  I would refer to that as locking the account  ;)

All understood .......  thanks again.

Now to see if there is an answer to the other question that is consistent in operation.

regards.

A workaround to put icons on desktop x is as follows:

1. go to desktop x
2. unlock widgets
3. Right click on menu item for the application you want
4. Select add to panel
5. Click on panel cashew
6. Drag icon to desktop
7. Close panel configuration panel and place icon where you want it
8. Lock widgets.

It's a bit convoluted but it works for me.

Still can't make it default to Desktop 1 though!

That problem is solved .......  simply change to Kickoff menu style and drag & drop the icon from the menu.  ;)

Thanks.  Not really solved though - a different workaround.  I hope the KDE team will fix these problems soon.
