XSANE, a HP2180 on LAN, and LXDE2010
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:23:25 PM »
We have LXDE 2010 on a desktop and two lappy's, printing through wireless to the HP2180 on the desktop. When we need to scan, it can only be done from the desktop or by shutting down said machine and plugging the USB lead into the laptop. This regularly causes the printer to be lost to the LAN and require a re-setup at both ends.
I found the facility to add a network scanner in Configure, but being a Noob I don't know what to "call" the desktop in the setup box so that the laptop can spot it. Am I correct in believing that I can network a scanner?
As an aside and not strictly part of the above, we also have a Lexmark X2470 PSC left over from the XP days. If I plug my Eeep 701 into it, it remains invisible to XSane, returning only the webcam as a suitable device. A work-around might be to get XSane to see this scanner even though I can find no evidence of the printy-bit being supported under Linux. If anyone has found a driver for this printer, now would be a really good time to share it!

Thanks,
John.
