^ you got it wrong, i did change the resoulution, and it didn't work properply like its suppose to.
it works on windows, works on freebsd, works on other distros. jeez i wonder why it doesn't work properly with pclinux.
i had to use the monitor's hard coded settings just to align the screen back correctly everytime.
qwert12345,
The 9600 works fine, the ' thing' is that you 'did wrong' is you tried to use the graphical server from the ati site, for a card that is no longer supported by ati, within an operating system where is not recommended to go outside the repository.
PCLinuxOS is a little different from the other distros - its a rolling distro, all the parts work together to be greater than the sum of its parts, this is why partial updates and installing externally can be detrimental
Rather than get defensive, and I can read that its not just one person being defensive, why not try the LiveCD - with the default ATI xserver (which can be tweaked), and if it fails to work THEN ask for assistance
One of the things that happens when you are familiar with multiple OS's be it a BSD, Solaris, Haiku, Linux or any one of the other myriad of OS's out there is that on occasion there comes situation that you are aware of a solution that works in 99% of he other OS's, but unfortunately fails to work in the one you need it to, I would suggest that this is one of those occasions.
Another point that has been raised is that the promotion/pushing of a given distro or OS is outside of the rules of the forum, this is true, and I ask you to refrain any further, general speak is ok, if you want to say how good any given os is , I am sure that they have a Testimonials section on the forum for that OS, if they don't then suggest one.
I hope you give it another shot, and should things not work the way you think they should then ask we are here to help.
