<SOLVED> Can't update.
« on: October 15, 2010, 11:52:00 AM »
I can't update since I got a new ISP.
It is telling me that there is no internet connection.
Yes, I have internet connection.

How are you setup now that you've changed?

Is it PC >> Router >> Modem >> Internet ?

Isn't there only one way you can do it?

phone jack into modem, ethernet out from modem into router, from router out to PC.

your posts are confusing ...you say you have internet and you say you dont at the same time.

can you list programs that can go online and programs that cant? what browser do you use?
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Yes I have internet.

Synaptic can not go online.
Gpodder can not go online.

I use Chromium, but that has nothing to do with my problem.
I can surf and download stuff from the web no problem.

Also I just bypassed the router, and plugged the DSL modem directly into the PC, and the same problem, so it's not a router setting that needs to be changed.

Could it be that the PCLOS servers are blocking me because I have a different IP adress now then before? ???
But then it still wouldn't explain why my podcatcher wont connect.

Can you get any useful info by running apt-get update in a terminal?

Both of those programs are gtk based, can you try another gtk based application like firefox and pidgin to see if you cant go online too?

chromium is gtk based and this kind of spoils the suspicion i have but you can always try.

try to start all program you test from the terminal and see if they will tell you anything.

I can get online with Firefox, however it freezes after a few clicks.
Pidgin has a problem.

Hmm. So what happens when you put spout.ussg.indiana.edu in the Firefox address bar and hit enter? I get a distro index here.
