Help with ipod touch.
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:33:12 AM »
Ok, i'm sure there is another thread somewhere for this so i would appreciate if someone pointed me in the right direction, or just explains it themselves in here :).  I never have had a i pod of any kind,  and was just given one as a gift.  I've seen a few programs under cd and dvd that are used but i have no idea how to connect my device or how to put music on it through any of those programs.  So please, from step 1 as i am a noob  :-\ what is the best program to use for putting music on it and of course how do i do it?

Thanks all!

These may help - just a quick web search  ;)

You may need to install  gtkpod (gtkpod is a platform independent GUI for Apple's iPod using GTK2. It allows you to upload songs and playlists to your iPod. It supports ID3 tag editing, multiple charsets for ID3 tags, detects duplicate songs, allows offline modification of the database with later synchronisation, and more.)

BTW, what happens when you plug your ipod in? does it show up in Dolphin or does it automatically open an app? (haven't used one so not sure what happens)

When i plug it in,  on the desktop it brings up a thing that says usb image interface and under type it says camera.  Nothing at all recognizing an ipod.  When i follow those two sites you should me when i go to connect device or search for devices it says nothing found.

When I first started using GTKPOD it did not support the Ipod touch. This may have changed. I dunno.
Works great on the Nano I have.

From GTKPODs website.

Latest stable release is version 0.7.2, and latest development release is 0.7.94. The stable release supports iPods up to the iPod Classic and the iPod Nano 4g. The development release has support for all iPod models, as well as for non-jailbroken iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone). iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch 4 are only supported as read-only devices. Support for the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano released on September 2010 is at this point unknown, please get in touch with us if you have such a device up for testing.

You don't need to install an external file. gtkpod is available through the synaptic packet manager.

When you search for gtkpod you'll also see gtkpod documentation.

NEWS
gtkpod 0.99.18 = gtkpod 1.0!

The gtkpod 1.0 release, to follow the current version 0.99.16, has arrived. The release notes are available here.

We currently have gtkpod 0.99.16. May be time for a package request?

You are using a depreciated version of PCLinuxOS that is no longer supported. There is only one legacy software repository provided by a community member.

Read this for more information.
