How to view Hotmail in Seamonkey
« on: October 09, 2010, 10:27:53 AM »
If you're one of the minority (raises hand) who still likes using the Seamonkey internet Suite http://www.seamonkey-project.org/   , and you also have a Hotmail account, you may have experienced this problem. You can log in, but the view is very distorted, and limited, missing many of the functions you expect, and unable to browse properly.

Until now, I'd just gotten annoyed, shrugged, and opened it in Firefox. (Opening in Opera allows me to sign in, but then only gives me a white display for an inbox). Tonight, I'd had enough. Fair bit of googling around showed this was a known issue. A hotmail issue. Annoying, but not insurmountable. I found my solution at this link http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=9720779#p9720779 .

Basically, type into your address bar
Code: [Select]
about:config to access the configuration control, and paste
Code: [Select]
general.useragent.extra.seamonkey into your top bar for it to search for that string. It will identify as SeaMonkey/2.0.8 (or whatever number you're using at the time). Simply at on after this string
Code: [Select]
; Firefox/3.6.8 , close and restart Seamonkey, and you're away. I'm now logged into my hotmail and accessing it like normal. Stupid hotmail decides to only with certain ID strings it would seem. *sigh*

Hope this might prove of use to some. Cheers
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

Thanks for this post.  I have been using Konqueror lately for Web browsing, it has similar problems when accessing Hotmail.  I thought I'd see if this helped.  So far it hasn't completely fixed the problem, however I no longer get the upgrade to a different browser nag screen.  I still can't access anything once I log in, I can see my inbox, but have a message saying Hotmail can't be accessed.  I'll continue with the user-agent parameter to see if I can get full access.
