Built and testing 2.6.35.7-bfs
« on: October 09, 2010, 01:02:56 AM »
I downloaded 2.6.35.7 from kernel.org and patched with today's bfs patch. I did not add any other pclos patches. I used the existing .config file and make oldconfig. I accepted all defaults to the remaining questions, then make && make modules_install && make install. I am now testing this kernel. I have no problems with alsa, or any hardware. The interactive response is 'very noticeably' improved. It makes everything seem very fast. This is the best my computer has run with any software combination, yet. This is with kde4 fully updated. I am going to continue to test to see if there appears any bugs, pitfalls, tradeoffs, etc. But so far, so good!

This is still present in the 2.6.35.7 kernel and I have no sound.

Could your result come from a patch carried forward from a previous kernel? I have onboard intel sound, and a dual core Intel 1.73GHz processor. It built without errors and the first test that I did was to play:

Herbie Hancock - Jazz Fusion Cantelope Island

 :)

I then scrolled down to the bottom of the rss news feed for freshmeat and selected 'open all in tabs'. (Edit: Not while the video was playing!) This opened 100 pages all at once. I immediately opened and closed Synaptic, Thunderbird, Konqueror and had no noticeable delays. I went back to Firefox and started deleting the tabs and each one closed in 1-2 seconds all the way to 1 remaining. I don't believe I was able to do this before. This is a laptop and I use the touchpad. I've always thought that the sensitivity was slightly 'off', but the mouse cursor slides smoothly at all times. ;)

Just to get a little crazy, I tried it again with the jazz video playing. Interestingly, when firefox opened the 100 tabs, the video stopped but the music continued to play without a single glitch until the memory was used up and swapping began (I'm assuming), after about 30+ seconds. I then closed each of the tabs, one by one, and firefox is still running to post this response. Unfortunately, the video tab must have crashed and went away!
