How to set up a multi display? <SOLVED>
« on: October 11, 2010, 12:26:58 AM »
Just connected a second display and got it displaying a duplicate of my desktop. But what is the proper way to get it to either 1 have the desktop displayed across both monitors (not just duplicate)
Or     2 show different desktops?

My video card is an nVidia GTS250
Both monitors are Flat panel and made by Princeton
Primary monitor is 19"
Second monitor is 17".  Both are displaying 1280 X 1024.  But the second is fuzzy.

In the nVidia display settings the second monitor is listed as a crt (I assume it's because I have to use an adapter for the digital plug) And it's refresh is listed as 75.02 Hz.  It has a button to "Acquire EDID..."  But I don't know where or how to acquire it.

Any Idea's?

are you in kde4?

in kde control center there is a menu setting all that

kcc/hardware/size and orientation, also in the multiple monitors setup(that remains disabled until you enable the second monitor first)

i have a netbook and tried to do it, but all i could was clone screen, i believe that the difference between the two screens i had(one 16:10 small with weird resolution and the other 4:3) and compiz didn't let me work in extended mode

i haven't used a nvidia card in a long time but i remember someone saying that the menu had a option to handle this settings too

Yes I'm in kde4, but for me kcc didn't display anything until I activated the second display in nvidia-settings.  Duh!!!! It was right in front of me.  So now I have both displays working side by side, calendar on one, work on the other.

Thanks for your help,
