Hi Gain WIFI Antenna
« on: October 07, 2010, 05:35:29 PM »
I have a Edimax PCI WIFI card in my machine that works  great in PCLOS. When my DSL modem fried last month, I was stuck on dial up (netzero) for a week while I waited for a new modem to be shipped to me.

I just finally got the card working, must have not been seated well in the PCI slot.

I have a hotel approx 150 yards from my home with free wifi.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced, hi-gain wifi antenna? It will have to have a rp-sma connector. I've looked on eBay, and there are a ton of them, but was hoping someone had a positive experience with a particular antenna.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I noticed a lot of reads and no posts to your question, maybe I can help.

If you have the materials, build yourself a loop-yagi. Just need copper wire, and metal reflector, and a copper boom, such as brass strip or copper tubing.

I don't have details at hand, and am working on problems of my own at the moment.
just google loop yagi, wifi, ham radio, arrl etc.

Just for fun I did a search using "diy wifi antenna" on ixquick search and got over 700,000 suggestions.  One of them may help your situation. ;D

Revised after checking out a link or two:

You might like to review Episode 45 "Practically Free DIY WiFi Antennas" the site is hxxp://revision3.com/systm/, be sure to change the hxxp to http.  I found the show very informative.
