Can't view pdf in Chromium
« on: October 06, 2010, 12:04:58 PM »
Hi,
after latest Chromium update for the repos (7.0.536.0 (60738)) I can't view pdf in my browser. What can I do? Please note "Chrome PDF Viewer" plugin is active.

Thanks.

Google posted this some time ago

http://blog.chromium.org/2010/06/bringing-improved-pdf-support-to-google.html

and this was on code-google

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=54922

So it looks as though they have had problems in the past

Hi, the bug you've posted link is about chromium and google docs. What I (simply) want is to open a pdf document in my browser.

I understand that,  it was just a way of pointing out that this has been an on-going problem (whether docs was used or not.)

Thanks for reporting this problem.  There have been several pdf plugin crash bugs reported to the chromium devs for this issue. The current dev channel I am working with doesn't seem to have this problem. I will get it out as soon as I can.

I installed the Ultimate Google Docs Viewer extension and can get a pdf to load with a right click.

Many thanks i8dbbq - do you know if it needs a Google account (particularly Docs) for it to open/view the PDF's ?

Thank you, but I'd like to open pdfs into Chrome natively, because, for example, I want to print them without using Google docs.

Any ideas on how to get Chromium to launch Okular?  For me, that would be the easiest solution.  In theory mozplugger might be able to do this but disabling the internal pdf viewer does not get mozplugger kicking in.  I can not find a way to change actions for various file types.

Is there a reason you can't just use Okular ?

Edit - I've just opened one in Chromium 8

Texstar - I uploaded the latest dev version 9.0.570.1 (64589) to dropbox today. The internal pdf viewer was working for me.
