Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

I have the Toshiba Satellite A205 with the 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. I have the correct driver, but I have never been able to get the sound to work in Firefox. The sound works everywhere else throughout the computer, but, you have to put your ear to the speaker to hear it, even when it's at max volume. Any idea how to fix this?

The only solution I know of is to go to the Alsa website, download and manually install the latest version of Alsa. I had the same problem. 

I was too lazy to go through the process, didn't want to muck everything up so I am soundless with PCLinuxOS until Alsa's latest version goes mainstream. gl.

I have the same laptop and no problems with sound. Which version of PCLinuxOS are you using?

It stands to be repeated. but click the kmix and under settings > configure channels, add all the optional speakers and lines to the visible side. Then make sure they are all turned up and un-muted. Sometime for no really good reason they start off muted or turned down,,,   :/

Worth a shot.

Could also try it in another User Account or create a new FFox profile to see if it works in that.

Could also try reinstalling mozplugger and Mplayerplugin

Or you could try this, in the the PCLinuxOS Control Center, go to Hardware, select Browse and configure hardware, select your Soundcard and open Set Current driver options.  Under id, enter toshiba.  Then reboot.

Thanks, K2. That worked! I only had to add the speaker channel to the visible side. Do you have any idea why it wasn't originally there? It isn't a place I would think to look at because, well, it should already be turned on.

I don't know why I didn't think of this until a search. I have seen the problem with hidden components before, and I don't know why that happens, either, but hey, it works for this Dell Vostro laptop I'm putting Linux on for my grandson.
