Menu Problem
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:05:18 PM »

Hi,

The xfce menu will not start RealPlayer when Firefox, Thunderbird, and Abiword are open
and minimized but the Panel Launcher always does.  Reinstalled it once but same thing.
Also the Panel Quit launcher doesn't work at times.  Fairly same scenario.

Everything else starts from the xfce menu all the time.  All upgrades have been made and
appear to work well otherwise.

I wonder what gives ?   Small bug of some kind ?

FYI

hi patrick ....

i have tested launching this from terminal ... panel applet and menu and all 3 launch with no issues ... something else is at fault here ... did you install from the Repo or from the website????

Kori ;D

Hello, Kori,

I do have a Realplayer.bin file but haven't used it yet.  Realplayer was installed from the PCL repo (twice).  It works fine but only launches from the menu when the workspace is 100% clear.  A panel launcher icon for RealPlayer works all the time, regardless of what is on the workspace, similar to your results launching it from a terminal, etc..  Questions, questions, questions...ask me some more questions then.

What else can I tell you, otherwise every other program is launching and running fine regardless of other programs in the workspace.

I'm turning off some windows options later in settings manager and limiting other options and tweaks to basic minimize and maximize.
Maybe move the panel to the bottom or the side and see what happens.  Realplayer also has a full clip buffer instead of a 30
or 60 second buffer, perhaps with the workspace partially full it can't find a good spot for the buffer and refuses to open then. Guessing on that one.

It just will not wrestle thru a partially full workspace.

thanks for your time and response,

Patrick013

Sproggy,

I've tried everything.  Moved the panel, moved the panel menu, made settings as minimalistic as possible,
switched between xfwm4 and compiz, reinstalled the items, and RealPlayer and the Quit panel icon hang
when other programs are present.

What are your revelations regarding this ?   Minor bug with Realplayer ?

Things are things and basic computer knowledge from alot of Dos and Windows experience
is all I have to use today until I find a clear LINUX book and some time to read it further.   But,
I think the two Indiana repositories I usually use are jinxed, cursed, or virused.   I upgraded yesterday from
a different repository and no hangups encountered.  I did have a problem with KeePass and Gnumeric
installs regarding dependencies which I could not resolve because Synaptic has record of those
requirements not the user.  Some other users use Indiana and had problems so my presumption is based on
not using Indiana.   Time will tell.   The less problems the better you know.
