E17-jpg viewer?
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:26:33 PM »
Hello!

I'm currently running a fully updated PCLOS with e17, which I find absolutely amazing.

However, I do have a problem: I can't display jpg pictures with ephoto, or very slowly and incompletely.

Is there a thing I missed, or another application I should download from the repos to replace it?

Thanks in advance.

GPicview is a nice & light imageviewer but there are plenty of others in synaptic. :)

I chose Mirage because it's said to be light, and more complete than GPicView which lacks a slideshow/diaporama.

I'm slowly configuring my e17 to exactly what I want, very very nice!

That's exactly what i did using mainly lighter applications. I started from zen mini then remove the complete gnome, install e17 + my favorite apps, removed all e17 config and started setting it up from the default config.
Once you've figured e17 out you can create your own workspace excactly the way you like it and the way you want it to behave, on top of that your favorite apps and everythings keeps fast and responsive.

What are the programs you advise me to replace exactly?

I'm only starting with e17, so didn't see much to change yet besides the files manager and image viewer. I didn't check for the music player for instance.

I did only disable efm, but I guess it's still here, any way to uninstall it?

Thanks

efm is a e17 module, all modules come in 1 package so you can't uninstall it but if you disabled the module it shouldn't bother you anymore.

You can replace what you want depending on the applications you need or are used to. We can give you hints or point you to alternatives if you're looking for something.
Some of my favorite light apps:
-pino for ùblogging
-deadbeef and clementine for audio
-whaawmp for video
-lxterminal and lxtask
-pcmanfm
-sylpheed mail client
-abiword and gnumeric for office
-epdfviewer
-easymp3gain & transcoder audio edition
-flphoto for my camera
-parcellite clipboard
-leafpad editor

Of course there's much more in the repo to play with. :)
