idiots guide to ndiswrapper required

I've been hunting around, but can't seem to find one.

I've managed to use ndiswrapper with my wireless card on my desktop, however for some unknown reason puppy does not always boot properly.  I know that I have both the correct driver and that the wireless card.

However I can't seem to get the card working in pclinuxos.  I've tried to follow the instructions here

however as I'm using gnome version I don't think its set up the same. 

When I get to the bit that says

# Instructions for PCC

   1. Once you find your drivers (.inf, .sys, and optionally .cat, .bin) copy them to a Linux directory where you can point ndiswrapper to find them.
   2. "PCC -> Network -> Set up a new network interface -> Wireless"

I do not have the option to set up a new network interface.  So I get a bit stuck.

When I try to setup ndiswrapper using the terminal I get all the way to the

modprobe ndiswrapper

when I get  FATAL: Module nidswrapper not found.

I don't think I'm using ndiswrapper quite correctly but would appreciate a bit of directing

If you don't have the option shown, upper right corner, your installation is broken. If you have it, use it.

That seems odd.

Everything else seems to work. 

It's just that on the network and internet menu, I have the network center, but not the setup new network interface icon.

I can connect to the internet with the ethernet cable, but not yet the wireless.

After I've installed the live cd are there any updates I can install which would help to fix it?

It really should just be there. There may be a package that you could install to correct it, but the question I have is, "What else might be missing?"

Were it my machine, I'd do another d/l of the image, check it with md5sum, (or check the present image) if it checks out, burn a new disk at the slowest speed possible, then check the disk itself with md5sum. If the burned disk has the same md5sum as the correct image, then the disk is fit to install from. I would then reinstall the OS from that disk.
