audio problem

I recently installed PClinuxOS and had a hard time with the audio. Using Gmixer I found that the audio output was going to the wrong place. After un-checking the "Analog/Digital Output Jack" box in the Sound application all was fine.

While PCLOS is a great distro, I was actually looking for something a bit lighter. I tried the LXDE version which seemed just right for my needs. Unfortunately the audio would not work. I looked for some way to correct the setup of my PCI audio card, as I previously did in PCLOS, but there was no way that I could find to accomplish this. Moreover, there was no Gmixer installed either. Can someone please clue me in on how to set up the audio in LXDE or do I have to install Gmixer and all its dependencies?

PS: I'm using a PCI audio card and the on board audio has been deactivated in the BIOS.

Run "alsamixer" in terminal-mode and adjust audio settings there.

TNX for the reply. However, I tried that and it did not work.

I believe that under LXDE the audio output is being directed to the mother-board speakers instead of to the PCI audio card. My speakers are connected directly to the jacks on the PCI audio card. Under PCLOS all it took was unchecking the box that said "analog/digital output jack", undder Applications|Sound|Gmixer|Switches. The box that said "4 speaker sterio" remained checked.

It appears the Gmixer has a switch to accomplish exactly what I want to do and I don't believe that alsamixer offers the same option.

I installed  volumeicon  in place of the default one, which gave me access to Preferences ....  and got my sound working properly in LXDE

Thanks to both of you for the replys. I tried alsamixer a second time (disabled "<analog/D>") and that solved the problem for me. Works fine now.
